February 11, 1941
It was 69 years ago today that I left my dear mother and nice home in Sandborn, Indiana. It was snowing and near zero temperature as I hitched-hiked, nearly 150 miles, to Chanute Field, Illinois to enlist in the Army Air Corp. Mom is now in heaven. The home has been demolished. But the memory remains.

I remember this photo! Thanks for sharing it again. That snow reminds me of how it looks here right now! (we have about 6", btw.) I was trying to describe that house to someone a couple of days ago. I always thought it was wonderful. The lady standing in front of it was more than wonderful. She was my idol.
